16 killed as Russian missile hits Ukraine market

A market located in the front line in eastern Ukraine was subjected to a Russian strike resulting in the unfortunate deaths of over a dozen individuals, including a kid.

The attack has been described as “heinous evil”, by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The rockets penetrated the central area of Kostiantynivka, a town located in the Donetsk region with a population of approximately 70,000 individuals. This incident occurred just after the arrival of the United States’ highest-ranking diplomat in Kyiv, who had come to announce the provision of additional assistance.

The recently appointed defence minister of Ukraine expressed his determination to regain full control over all the land now held by Russia, emphasising his commitment to reclaim every inch of the area in his initial remarks following his appointment on Wednesday.

According to photographs disseminated by officials, rescue personnel meticulously sifted through the wreckage and transported a portion of the about 30 injured individuals for medical attention, navigating past scorched automobiles and demolished kiosks resulting from the explosion.

“Sixteen people have been killed, including one child,” Prime Minister Denys Shmygal said on social media following the strike in the market about 20 kilometres (12 miles) from the front line.

Since 2014, the industrial Donetsk area has been under partial control of separatist groups supported by the Kremlin. Russia declared its annexation of the region in late 2020.

“Anyone in the world who is still dealing with anything Russian simply ignores this reality. Heinous evil. Brazen wickedness. Utter inhumanity,” Zelensky said.
