The Kwara State Government has been urged by the National Emergency Management Agency to take action against the state’s electoral crisis.
The PUNCH reported that this accusation was made in a statement released on Thursday in Ilorin by the head of NEMA’s Minna Operations Office, Zainab Saidu.
Zainab said that NEMA is concerned about the possibility of election violence and instability, which can have catastrophic consequences for the people of Kwara and the nation as a whole.
She added that NEMA will continue to promote peace among Nigerians, particularly during the conduct of the general elections in 2023.
During the election season, Saidu urged candidates and citizens of the State to carry out their duties without using violence or terror.
“During this crucial time, we implore all Nigerians to support our initiatives to advance peace and stability.
“The agency strongly urges lawmakers to make sure that their followers abide by the law,” she said.
In order to stop electoral violence in the state and across the nation ahead of the general elections, Saidu claimed that the agency has consistently urged aggressive action.
“The agency believes that by taking precautions, we can guarantee a calm and orderly electoral process.
“Politicians are also urged to adopt a culture of sportsmanship and express their complaints in a way that complies with the Nigerian Constitution,” she added.
Saidu advocated for the deployment of security personnel for the protection of voters and election officials during the poll while asking the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure effective management and conduct of the election.
