A former two-time lawmaker in Ebonyi State, Eni Uduma Chima, said that 96 road users on average died along Iyere Valley and Hill yearly in the Edda community before the intervention of former governor, David Umahi.
The former council chairman of Afikpo South Local Government Area made this known while speaking with newsmen in Abakaliki capital of Ebonyi State.
He said the valley used to be a dead trap for road users until ex-governor David Umahi constructed a flyover.
He said, “We are part of this Iyere flyover project from the beginning. The Iyere flyover came from the inspiration of the former governor David Umahi. He saw the spate of accidents happening from time to time.
“In fact, the average death record we had before the intervention of David Umahi is ninety-six (96) persons per annum. And that’s the sure average. God gave David Umahi the inspiration to construct the flyover and he succeeded.”
He noted that the Iyere flyover has marked the end of frequent accidents and the wastage of lives and properties.
Daily Post recalls that Umahi before his exit in office, constructed the flyover which was commissioned by former President, Goodluck Jonathan.
