AAC demands immediate resolution to naira, fuel crises

The African Action Congress, a party founded by a presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, has urged Buhari to urgently proffer solutions to the problems of new naira scarcity and fuel scarcity.

The party issued a statement on Saturday, signed by its presidential campaign group’s spokesperson, Onyinye-Gandhi Chukwunyere.

According to the statement, “our presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, hereby condemn in the strongest terms, the currency and fuel shortage crisis being faced by poor Nigerians and wreaking socio-economic havoc across the country.”

The party therefore ascribed the blame of the hardship faced by Nigerians to the president.
AAC said, “We place the blame squarely on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) of the All Progressives Congress-led government.”

Am Business reported that the tension faced by Nigerians regarding the redesign of the new note has not eased despite the extension of the deadline from December 31 to February 10, 2023.

Meanwhile citizens have recently had to queue for long in banks expecting to receive cash while POS have been charging 10 percent for every withdrawal made.

“We believe that, with due diligence and foresight, the government should have deployed a range of liquidity management policy measures to achieve the objective of reducing monies in circulation for vote-buying in the elections, instead of adopting an option that merely succeeded in exposing the Nigerian people to needless suffering,” Chukwunyere said this while admonishing the federal government.

According to him, the government ought to have put more effort into strengthening the Independent National Electoral Commission and the security services. This is to be able to effectively enforce the electoral law by capturing those who err as well as vote buyers.

The spokesperson also added that the country already was experiencing fuel scarcity before the circulation of the redesigned new note.

He further stated, “This condemnable situation has worsened inflation and driven millions more into poverty.

“We demand an immediate resolution of the currency and fuel crises so that our people who are already on the brink will not be pushed over.”
