A former lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has opined that the resignation of Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, from the Peoples Democratic Party, is a major setback for the opposition party.

Premium Politics reported that Abaribe who is a top governorship aspirant of the PDP in Abia State announced his resignation on Friday, 72 hours before the governorship primary election in the state.

Abaribe also resigned as the Senate Minority Leader in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, citing illegality, impunity and hesitations in decision-making for his decision to dump the party.

However, in a reaction via his verified Twitter handle, Sani who recently lost in the PDP’s governorship primary election in Kaduna State labelled Abaribe’s exit from the party as unfortunate.

“Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s reported resignation from the PDP is a serious setback to the opposition. He is an outstanding lawmaker and a strong voice for justice, equity and accountable governance. It’s unfortunate that the Abia issues couldn’t be solved amicably,” Sani who represented the Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly tweeted to his 2.5 million followers.
