The embattled National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, appealed to the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, to put aside their differences and collaborate with the party leadership.
Speaking at his first press conference since the April 3 fire incident that nearly took his life at his Abuja residence, Abure urged Ajaero to support efforts to rebuild the country and focus on the welfare of workers.
Abure and Ajaero have been at odds following the NLC’s attempts to take control of the LP party structure, alleging that Abure was running a one-man show and engaging in financial misconduct.
In response, the LP camp accused Ajaero of attempting to oust the Abure-led National Working Committee to use the party for personal gain ahead of the 2027 election.
Addressing reporters at the party secretariat in Abuja, Abure called Ajaero a friend and brother, emphasizing their years of collaboration in advocating for workers’ rights.
He said, “I want to appeal to my brother, friend, and Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the NLC, with whom we have fought together for workers’ welfare, to put aside any grievances. Let’s work for our people.
“Fighting the Labour Party is unnecessary, especially when Nigerian workers are suffering. The minimum wage is still N30,000, unfair labor practices persist, and inflation is soaring.
“We need to unite to improve working conditions for our people. Fighting each other is counterproductive. The NLC should understand that attempting to take over the party’s leadership will not succeed. Collaboration is the way forward.”
