Adamawa poll: Supreme Court dismisses SDP appeal against Fintiri

Fintiri and Ardo

The Supreme Court has dismissed a suit filed by the Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the last governorship election in Adamawa State, Umar Ardo, against the re-election of the Governor of the state, Ahmadu Fintiri, at the Apex Court.

The Supreme Court sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, dismissed Ardo’s suit against Fintiri, following the intention of the SDP governorship candidate, to withdraw the suit.

The SDP candidate had earlier contested the results of the March 18 election at the state election tribunal, following his dissatisfaction with the outcome of the election, citing irregularities and malpractices, during the poll.

Having lost against the governor at the tribunal in October 2023, Ardo filed an appeal before the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja but also lost.

He, however, approached the Apex Court, seeking to set aside the judgement of the Appeal Court, which upheld the victory of Governor Fintiri in the election.

However, he withdrew the suit filed before the Apex Court through his lawyer on Wednesday, due to yet unknown reasons.
