Aiyedatiwa signs N96.79bn supplementary budget into law

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has signed the 2024 supplementary budget into law, aimed at meeting the state government’s new financial commitments.

The budget, which amounts to N96.79 billion, was approved by the State House of Assembly and signed by the governor on Tuesday at the Executive Council Chambers of the Governor’s Office.

With the inclusion of the supplementary budget, Ondo State’s total budget for 2024 now stands at N492.05 billion.

The budget is divided into N246.73 billion for recurrent expenditure and N245.32 billion for capital expenditure, according to Nigerian Tribune.

One key aspect of the supplementary budget is the provision for the payment of the newly approved minimum wage of N73,000 for state workers, as well as the salaries for newly recruited employees across various sectors. Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the budget is a reflection of his administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers and the overall development of the state.

In addition to the supplementary budget, Governor Aiyedatiwa also signed into law a bill to expand the board of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission.

He noted that the expansion would promote inclusivity and provide better equitable representation for the mandate areas.

Furthermore, he signed an amendment to the Ondo State House of Assembly Service Commission Law, praising the leadership and members of the House for their diligent work on the bills.

The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, commended the Governor for his leadership and the progress the state has made under his administration. Oladiji expressed the Assembly’s continued support for Aiyedatiwa’s administration, stating that the successful implementation of the new laws would have a positive impact on the lives of the people of Ondo State.

Oladiji said, “These giant strides have not only transformed the State in all facets but have clearly demonstrated your vision, capacity, intellectual ability, zeal, passion, direction and a clear understanding of the enormous job ahead.

“I want to on behalf of my colleagues assure Mr. Governor of our continuous support and cooperation to ensure the success of this administration. It is therefore hoped that the implementation of these Laws will impact meaningfully on the lives of the good people of the State.”
