Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has once again appeared before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in response to allegations of fund misappropriation during his tenure.
Bello arrived at the EFCC headquarters on Tuesday morning, accompanied by his legal team, driving himself in a black Hilux vehicle.
This development follows a recent Supreme Court decision upholding the constitutional authority of the EFCC to investigate and prosecute corruption-related cases involving public officials.
During a previous hearing on November 14, the EFCC sought an adjournment in the case against Bello before Justice Maryanne Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja. The agency requested additional time, noting that the 30-day period stipulated in the summons issued to Bello was still active. The matter was adjourned to November 27 for Bello’s formal arraignment.
In contrast, Bello’s co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, were granted administrative bail by the EFCC. The commission sought an extension to ensure the former governor’s appearance in court.
There had been speculation last week about Bello’s potential visit to the EFCC, though his media aides did not respond to inquiries on the matter. His appearance at the commission’s office underscores ongoing efforts by the EFCC to prosecute corruption allegations involving prominent public figures.
