Ahead of the inauguration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Ondo State Security Network, Amotekun, has deployed 700 personnel to ensure a smooth and incident-free event, while the state police command has reinforced security measures to maintain law and order.
The Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to safeguarding the ceremony and all attendees.
“All necessary security measures are in place to guarantee a smooth and safe event. We have profiled all expected guests and have details of their accommodations,” Afolabi stated.
He further explained that police personnel would be assigned to escort dignitaries from the airport to their hotels and the inauguration venue, ensuring their safety throughout the event.
Afolabi urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives, assuring that the police were fully prepared to ensure a peaceful and orderly exercise.
In a similar move, the Commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed that 700 personnel had been deployed across the state to support overall security efforts.
“We have assessed potential security threats and delineated operational redlines. Our officers are strategically positioned to ensure a peaceful atmosphere throughout the period,” Adeleye said.
He further noted that security strategies had been put in place to guarantee a hitch-free ceremony at the Akure Sports Complex on Monday, February 24, 2025.
Adeleye also commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for lifting the curfew previously imposed on Owo, describing the decision as a significant step toward restoring normalcy while maintaining security in the state.
However, he issued a stern warning to criminals, stressing that security operatives remained on high alert across all 18 local government areas.
“There is no hiding place for criminals. Our operatives are battle-ready to counter any security threat,” he warned.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities for swift intervention by security agencies.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Afolabi directed the deployment of security personnel around the inauguration venue to ensure the safety of attendees and the smooth running of events.
A statement signed by the Police Command’s spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, outlined key security guidelines to be enforced on the day of the inauguration:
– VIP escorts will not be allowed into the venue with rifles but may remain in designated areas around the stadium perimeter.
– Commuters are advised to take alternative routes to ease movement and reduce congestion.
– Vehicle owners are strongly advised to park in safer locations to avoid damage, congestion, or obstruction.
Odunlami emphasized that all security agencies would be on the ground to enforce compliance and urged residents to adhere to the guidelines to ensure a secure and orderly event.
