A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress has dismissed the recent meeting between former presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, describing them as “angry persons seeking relevance.”
The APC chieftain, who preferred anonymity, stated that the meeting was nothing more than a gathering of individuals seeking to regain political significance, according to Politics Nigeria.
“It’s a meeting of angry persons seeking relevance,” the chieftain said, downplaying the significance of the encounter.
The meeting between Kwankwaso and El-Rufai has sparked speculation about potential political alliances ahead of the 2027 general election.
However, the APC chieftain’s comments suggest that the party views the meeting as an attempt by the two politicians to stay relevant in the political landscape.
Despite the speculation surrounding the meeting, both Kwankwaso and El-Rufai have remained tight-lipped about their discussions, fueling further speculation about their intentions.
Confirming the visit, Kwankwaso posted on X, “Pleased to pay a cordial visit to my former colleague, H.E Nasir El-Rufai, at his residence in Abuja today.”
The anonymous APC chieftain described the meeting as nothing short of a meeting of aggrieved persons, seeking to regain relevance.
Reacting to the Thursday meeting between Kwankwaso and El-Rufai, AYCF President General Yerima Shettima commented, “El-Rufai has the fundamental right to relate and visit whoever he chooses. However, these visits by opposition party members certainly have political undertones.
“Recall that El-Rufai also visited the Social Democratic Party (SDP) sometime ago.
“The recent visits to former President Muhammadu Buhari and now to NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, certainly have political motives aimed at possibly unseating the incumbent president. Whether such visits will yield political results, only time will tell.”
