The Rivers State Commissioner for Special Projects, Chief Emeka Woke, has reportedly tendered his resignation from Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s cabinet, following the recent departure of Attorney General Zachaus Adango.
While Adango cited personal reasons for his exit, Woke’s resignation letter remains confidential and hasn’t been publicly released, according to Nigerian Tribune.
This development comes amidst a political rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. The rift has also led to the defection of 27 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
There are suggestions that Woke’s resignation could be a gesture of loyalty to Wike, whom he previously served. The crisis in Rivers State heightened on Wednesday when the state government demolished the state legislative chamber.
The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, in a statement on Wednesday, said the place was unsafe for human habitation because of the recent explosion and fire incident there.
Just before the demolition of the chamber, four lawmakers loyal to the Fubara, led by factional Speaker, Edison Ehie, held a plenary at the Government House, Port Harcourt. They thereafter approved the state budget, presented to them by Governor Fubara.
