The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress and the party governors will convene on Tuesday in advance of the National Caucus and National Executive Committee meetings scheduled for next week.
According to Vanguard, although the meeting’s agenda was not immediately available, it is expected to begin at 1 pm at the NWC Hall of the party’s Buhari House National Secretariat.
There have been rumours that the conference was called by the NWC, which is led by Senator Abdullahi Adamu, to gain the support of the governors before the National Caucus and NEC meetings.
It was also learned that the goal of the meeting is to persuade the governors to support an audit report that has not yet been certified but has been submitted to the NWC by a third-party audit company that Senator Adamu has hired.
When the audit report was presented at the most recent NWC meeting, it was learned that the effort to get unanimous NWC approval of the report hit a snag because committee members demanded that the Secretariat give them copies of the report beforehand to allow for proper deliberations.
The APC Constitution mandates that the NWC provide the party’s audit report to the NEC, the party’s highest decision-making body, during its meeting.
A member of the NWC who confirmed the meeting confidentially said, “Yes, the NWC and PGF met as indicated by the 4-line notice of meeting that was placed on our platform today. The meeting is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, July 4, 2023, in the party secretariat.
When questioned about the meeting’s agenda, he only responded, “As usual, the notification, a four-line message, is without an agenda on it. Maybe the agenda will be known when we meet tomorrow.”
Although attempts to reach the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka to speak about the scheduled meeting were unsuccessful since he did not respond to calls or messages left on his phone, it was not immediately clear if the party would make an effort to discuss the majority leadership positions in the National Assembly.
