The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party has raised alarm over an alleged plot by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to engage the service of comprised judges to upturn their victories.
PDP made this known in a text of a press conference on its official X handle on Thursday, addressed by the National Chairman of the party, Amb. Umar Damagun, who made the allegation while speaking during the press conference at the party’s National Secretariat, in Abuja.
Damagun alleged that the ruling party is planning to upturn the will of the people and rob it of its hard-earned victory, especially in Plateau State.
According to him, part of the alleged plot is to use compromised Judges at the Appellate Court to upturn popular votes cast in favour of the PDP and its candidates in various elections.
The text reads partly: “Gentlemen of the press, we have invited you today to express serious concerns over the underhanded design by the All Progressives Congress (APC) @OfficialAPCNg to cripple our democracy, overthrow the democratic rights of Nigerians, suppress the Rule of Law and downgrade our nation to a fiefdom run by the whims of a cabal.
“Yesterday, our Party alerted that our nation is fast sliding into totalitarianism following the activities of a cabal in the Presidency which is out to emasculate Institutions of Democracy, especially the Judiciary in the desperation to subvert and overturn the expressed Will of Nigerians in the various election matters across the country.
“Of particular concern is the perverse pattern and attempts by the APC to use certain hugely compromised Electoral Petition Courts to snatch elections won by the PDP and award them to the defeated candidates of the APC who were rejected by the people at the polls in most States across the country,” Damagun said.
