The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has affirmed the election of Governor Amodu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party, as the winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state.
The appellate court on Tuesday, dismissed a petition filed by the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Umar Ardo, challenging the election of Ahmadu Fintiri as Adamawa State governor, declaring the governor as the true winner.
Delivering the judgement, Justice Ugochukwu Ogakwu affirmed the earlier decision of the Tribunal led by Justice Theodora Uloho, which dismissed Ardo’s petition for being incompetent and not properly filed.
The appeal court held that the appellants did not prove the allegations of corrupt practices and non-compliance to the Electoral Act, against the Independent National Electoral Commission, saying that there was no basis to grant the appeal.
Ardo and his party had filed a petition at the State Governorship Election Tribunal, challenging the declaration of Fintiri as the winner of the poll.
However, the appellate also approached the appeal court, seeking to set aside the tribunal judgement, after Fintiri won at the tribunal.
