The Chairman of Arewa Youths Awareness on Leadership and Election in Bauchi State, Khamis Musa Darazo, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for increasing the monthly allowance of National Youth Service Corps members to N77,000.
Darazo described the increase as timely, given Nigeria’s rising cost of living, as principal to Independent.
He learned that the new allowance will cushion the effects of inflation, hikes in transportation fares, electricity costs, and fuel subsidy removal.
In a statement, Darazo praised the federal government’s consideration of corps members’ plight during Nigeria’s economic downturn.
He reiterated that this gesture demonstrates President Tinubu’s commitment to empowering Nigerian youths and acknowledging their contributions to national development.
The increased allowance aims to boost corps members’ morale, enabling them to perform optimally during their service year.
Darazo’s praise comes as no surprise, having previously donated his NYSC allowance to support Tinubu’s presidential ambition in 2023.
The NYSC allowance increase, effective July 2024, follows the signing of the Minimum Wage Bill into law, setting Nigeria’s minimum wage at N70,000.
This move showcases the government’s sensitivity to Nigerians’ hardships and commitment to supporting young Nigerians in national development.
