Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has made a bold prediction that President Bola Tinubu will lose his re-election bid in 2027.
This comes after a public fallout between his father and the current administration.
In a statement on his official social media account on Wednesday, Bashir urged Nigerians to remain patient until the next poll, stating that no individual is too powerful to be voted out of office.
He also dismissed the influence of international organizations like the IMF and World Bank, suggesting they will not sway the outcome of the election.
Bashir’s comments follow the rejection of his father’s ministerial nomination by the Senate, which has led to a strained relationship between El-Rufai and the current administration.
The younger El-Rufai’s remarks have sparked interest in the potential dynamics of the 2027 election.
“Nobody is too big to be elected out of office by the people. It will happen & wallahi nothing will happen. So forget all these intimidations flying up and down. Let us be patient,” Bashir said in a statement posted on his official X account on Wednesday.
Bashir reiterated that the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank which the current regime has based some of its policies on including the removal of fuel subsidy and the free flow rate of naira, would not save Mr Tinubu if he seeks re-election.
“Even IMF & World Bank no go save una that time. Political strategist una,” he added, stating “that one na for Lagos,” a phrase that referenced Mr Tinubu’s political influence in Lagos State where he served eight years as governor and retained major say in choosing his predecessors.
