Benue PDP spokesman in DSS custody - Party chieftain

The Department of State Services in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, has arrested Mr. Bemgba Lortyom, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.

He was arrested after he went for an appointment with the state security agency.

His arrest was to be in connection with a petition filed against him by the ruling All Progressives Congress.

While confirming the arrest, the media consultant to the Benue PDP, Cornelius Hwande, stated that it is unusual for the DSS to invite someone without a reason.

He also suggested a potential link between the arrest and recent remarks by the incumbent Governor Hyacinth Alia.

“As soon as we arrived, at about 2:11 pm, two gentlemen walked up to us, claiming to be from the office of the Director and took Bemgba Lortyom away.

“One thing is however certain; it is not common for the DSS to invite anyone without a reason, let alone, the Publicity Secretary of an opposition party, and someone in the quality of Bemgba Lortyom who fearlessly bares his mind as an opposition spokesperson and remains one of the most vocal voices against the administration of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in Benue State.

“And with the recent remarks by the incumbent Governor Hyacinth Alia, it is difficult not to link him with this sudden invitation of Mr Iortyom by the DSS and his imminent detention,” Daily Post quoted him as saying.
