The Independent National Electoral Commission, has allegedly, suspended the Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Adamawa 2023 governorship election, Hudu Yunusa Ari.

The decision, which was taken, following the REC’s alleged ‘illegal declaration of Aisha Binani, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 election, as the winner of the poll, and numerous criticism that has trailed his action.

The REC had declared Binani as the winner of the governorship election in the state, while the collation of results was still going on, and his move generated a lot of reactions at the INEC headquarters in the state, with party agents agitating that his decision would not stand.

However, his action generated some tensions in the state, and the electoral umpire called for immediate suspension of the electoral process, asking the REC to report to INEC national headquarters in Abuja, immediately.

The statement reads: “I hereby convey the commission’s decision that you (Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari), Resident Electoral Commissioner, Adamawa state should stay away from the commissioner’s office in Adamawa state until further notice.

“The Administrative Secrtraety has been directed to take full charge of INEC, Adamawa state with immediate effect.”
