Borno Gov to sponsor 100 journalists’ training

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has announced plans to sponsor 100 journalists for training at the University of Maiduguri.

Zulum made the announcement at the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ Triennial Delegates Conference on Saturday in Maiduguri.

The governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy, Malam Isa Gusau, said he asked the university to organise a certificate training programme for journalists that would be funded by the state government.

He urged the council to nominate members to participate in the programme to help them develop their skills.

While reiterating his commitment to maintaining an open door policy, Zulum assured journalists of his continued support in carrying out their duties.

The Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Babakura Abba-Jato, praised the delegates and contestants for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

Baba Shiekh-Lawan, representing Abba-Jato, urged the contestants to accept the election results in good sportsmanship.

In his remarks, the newly elected Chairman of the Council, Mr Dauda Iliya, praised Zulum for the gesture, adding that the training was in line with the Council’s capacity building initiative.
