The Senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Abdul Ningi, has resigned his position as the chairman of the Northern Senators Forum.
Senator Ningi resigned his position following the uproar that came with his allegations that the 2024 approved budget was padded after approval by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, with the sum of N1.2 trillion.
Following clarification of the budget details by Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi (Ogun, APC), the Bauchi senator was suspended during plenary on Wednesday for a period of three months.
In a letter, dates March 11, 2024, that was released on March 12, 2024, following his suspension, Ningi issued a letter tendering his resignation as the Northern Senators Forum chairman.
The letter read, “I will like to resign my position as the Chairman of Northern Senators forum. This is of course necessitated by unfolding events in the National Assembly, the North and the Nation at large.
“I will like to specially thank members of the forum for the opportunity given to me for the last eight (8) months to spearhead this very important forum. I believe this forum is very important and fundamental to the progress and development of Northern Nigeria.
“Sincerely.”
