Buhari chairs state council meeting Friday

The Council of State will convene virtually on Friday under the chairmanship of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. d), to debate a range of issues, including the upcoming elections, the new naira, and the fuel shortage in some parts of the country.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, will provide the Council with an update on how the electoral watchdog is gearing up for the polls on February 25 and March 11.

Yakubu informed State House Correspondents that he would be updating the Council of State on Wednesday after presenting to the Federal Executive Council.

He said, “The briefing for the Council of State is going to take place on Friday, February 10. So basically, it’s about the readiness of the Commission to conduct the elections.”

In addition, Buhari will make a recommendation for Prof. Mohammed Haruna, Executive Vice Chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, to receive the Order of the Federal Republic, which he chairs the meeting from the council chambers of the State House.

The 36 state governors, the president of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, the speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, as well as the minister of justice and attorney general of the federation, Abubakar Malami, make up the Council of State.
