Buhari condoles Niger over tanker fire tragedy

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has extended his heartfelt condolences following the tragic loss of lives in a fire caused by a petroleum tanker accident on Saturday at Dikko Junction along the Abuja-Kaduna highway in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.

 

Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a press release issued on Sunday. The former president expressed deep sorrow over the incident and lamented the continued occurrence of such avoidable tragedies.

 

Buhari noted with disappointment the increasing trend of individuals attempting to scoop fuel at accident sites despite repeated warnings from authorities and the devastating consequences that often follow such actions.

 

He extended his condolences to the government and people of Niger State and wished those injured in the incident a swift recovery.

 

The statement read, “Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives in a fire following another petroleum tanker accident that occurred on Saturday at Dikko Junction on the Abuja-Kaduna highway, in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.

 

“He expressed disappointment that the practice of scooping up fuel is becoming more common in spite of warnings from the authorities, and the devastating losses of life that had characteristically attended such incidents.

 

“In condoling with the government and the people of Niger State, the former President wished speedy recovery to the injured.”
