Twelve candidates have been nominated by The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari to serve on the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission, and the Senate has been asked to approve their appointment.
According to The Guardian, the President made the request in a letter dated May 3, 2023, and addressed to the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan.
“In line with the North East Development Commission Establishment Act of 2017, Part 1, Section 2(5)(b), I am happy to submit for the Senate’s consideration, the appointment of the 12 nominees listed below to the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission.
The letter stated, “The Senate is asked to notice that the existing Governing Board of the North East Development Commission’s term will expire on May 7, 2023.
The nominees include Chairman (North East, Yobe) Bashir Bukar Baale, Executive Director, Humanitarian Affairs, (North East, Taraba) Suwaiba Idris Baba, Executive Director, Administration and Finance, (North East, Bauchi), Musa Umar Yashi, Executive Director, Operations (North East, Adamawa), Dr. Ismaila Nuhu Maksha, and MD/CEO, (North East, Gombe), Umar Abubakar Hashidu.
Others include member, (North East, Borno), Grema Ali, member, (South East), Onyeka Gospel-Tony, member, (South-South), Mrs. Hailmary Ogolo Aipoh, member, (South West); Air Commodore Babatunde Akanbi (rtd.), member, (North West), Mustapha Ahmed Ibrahim, member, (North Central) and a representative from the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Hadiza Maina.
Buhari hoped his request “will receive the usual expeditious consideration and confirmation of the Senate.”
