A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has said contrary to claims, the regime of the President, Major General, Muhammadu Buhari’s (retd.), is not fighting corruption.

Adegboruwa made this remark when he appeared on Channels Television’s, Sunrise Daily programme, monitored by Premium Politics.

He also faulted the release of former Governors of Plateau and Taraba states, Joshua Dariye, and Jolly Nyame, from the Kuje prison on presidential pardon.

Nyame was to serve a 12-year jail sentence for diverting N1.64 billion during his tenure as governor, while Dariye was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for N1.126 billion fraud.

However, they both served five years and were released on August 9, 2022, after Buhari pardoned them, citing old age.

But Adegboruwa on Thursday said, “I’ll like to appeal that we should refrain from repeating this phrase by the president to say that if we don’t deal with corruption, because corruption is dealing with this regime. This regime is sinking in corruption, so, that phrase is now anachronistic. It’s no longer relevant for us, it was when the president first came and he was using it to buy public acceptance.

“For now, we now know that in Nigeria, corruption has dealt with the Buhari administration. You saw that Jolly Nyame and Dariye were just released recently after a court had convicted them of corrupt offences.

“Let’s not reference this administration in terms of corruption, Buhari is not fighting any corruption at all.”
