A lawmaker loyal to Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon Ehie Edison has been declared the rightful Speaker of the State Assembly by a Federal High Court sitting in Port-Harcourt.

White, who has the full backing of Fubara was declared as Speaker on Tuesday, after the defection of 27 members of the House, who defected to the All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party, following the leadership tussle between the Governor and his Political godfather, Nyesom Wike.
However, the court also issued a restraining order preventing Hon. Martins Amaewhule, who allegedly has the backing of the FCT Minister, Wike.
Consequently, the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Hon Dumle Maol was also restrained from parading himself, as the Deputy Speaker of the Rivers Assembly.
Meanwhile, the court warned against the use of Thugs and Police officers to forcefully gain access to the Assembly Complex.
Premium Politics reported on Monday, that the 27 PDP lawmakers defected, citing internal divisions within the party, as the reason for their defection.
The defected lawmakers, led by Amaewhule, had previously initiated impeachment proceedings against Fubara before the timely intervention of President Tinubu, which stalled the process.
Meanwhile, many political players and the general public believe that their defection and the initial impeachment issue were fuelled by the crisis between the two political leaders.
