The Coalition of United Political Parties has called on Nigerians to reject the All Progressives Congress at the 2027 polls, citing the administration’s failure to address the persistent menace of insecurity in the country.
Mark Adebayo, the CUPP spokesperson, criticised the federal government’s inability to tackle the nation’s security challenges, which he described as a growing source of concern for citizens, local businesses, and foreign investors.
“This condemnation follows the recent massacre of 40 farmers in Borno State by the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, on January 12,” Adebayo stated, adding that the tragedy exemplifies the government’s inability to protect its citizens.
The CUPP highlighted the escalating insecurity across various parts of Nigeria, pointing to terrorist attacks and kidnappings that have claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions. Adebayo accused the APC-led government of neglecting its primary duty to safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians, despite significant investments in counter-terrorism efforts.
He noted that insecurity has become a major deterrent to national stability and economic growth, urging a comprehensive overhaul of the country’s security framework.
Adebayo implored Nigerians to “reject the APC in the 2027 elections,” warning of dire consequences if the party remains in power beyond its current tenure. He emphasised the need for a government capable of implementing effective security measures to restore peace and stability.
“This administration has failed to meet its most fundamental obligation—to protect its citizens,” he said, adding that the current security situation undermines the confidence of local and foreign stakeholders in the country’s future.
Expressing condolences to the families of the victims of the recent Borno State attack, Adebayo called for decisive action to restore peace in the country. “The government must take immediate steps to address the insecurity crisis that threatens the very fabric of our society,” he urged.
The CUPP reiterated its commitment to advocating for policies and leadership that prioritise the welfare and safety of Nigerians, calling on citizens to demand accountability from their leaders at all levels of government.
