Civil rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has stated that the two members of the Abia State House of Assembly who recently defected to the Labour Party should be prepared to forfeit their seats.
Two Abia lawmakers, who were members of the Young Progressives Party, defected to the Labour Party on Tuesday.
The defectors, Mr. Iheanacho Nwogu, representing Osisioma North State Constituency, and Mr. Fine Ahuama, representing Osisioma South State Constituency, were received into the state’s ruling party by Governor Alex Otti.
Reacting to the defection, Aisha Yesufu, a chieftain of the Labour Party and a staunch supporter of the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, expressed disapproval of the lawmakers’ actions.
Sharing the news of the defection on her official handle, she wrote, “Hope they are ready to also lose their seats. This nonsense where people are voted on a party ticket and then decamp to join the ruling party needs to be punished by the law.
“You should have the right to decamp, but you must forfeit the seat you won on another platform.”
