Ebonyi PDP begin moves to guarantee success in future elections

The Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi State has embarked on a significant reorganization effort aimed at restoring the party’s success in upcoming state elections.

This development comes as part of a broader strategy by the party’s National Working Committee to rejuvenate the PDP’s presence and influence in the region.

On Wednesday, the newly appointed chairman of the Caretaker Committee for the PDP in Ebonyi, Steve Oruruo, led a delegation of party leaders in a courtesy visit to Dr. Willie Etim, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Abakaliki. During the visit, Oruruo detailed the party’s plans for revitalization and reconciliation.

“The leadership of the country requires closer reassessment. If you are looking for best practices, best leadership, and qualitative governance that will beget productivity in politics, it requires quality human beings as personnel,” Oruruo stated.

He emphasized that the National Working Committee’s commitment to rejuvenate the PDP reflects a strategic focus on improving the party’s structure and effectiveness in Ebonyi State.

Oruruo acknowledged the internal challenges facing the PDP, including factionalism and disagreements among stakeholders, which have weakened the party’s unity and effectiveness. “We have had issues of disagreement among the stakeholders of the party. The party is somehow balkanised, it is factionalised and that is the essence of creating this particular leadership to resolve all the issues and strengthen the party,” he explained.

He further assured that the new leadership is dedicated to ending discord and fostering a fair and law-abiding environment within the party.

Addressing concerns about the political affiliations of prominent PDP members, Oruruo clarified recent speculations regarding Senator Anyim Pius Anyim. Despite rumors suggesting that the former Senate President and ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation might have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Oruruo affirmed, “The truth is this, democracy offers us options and political parties are mere conduits through which aspirations are pursued.

“So, people go to parties where they feel that they will succeed more, that’s the driving point and it’s an independent decision to be taken by every human being, it’s like a race to heaven. So, you can’t compel anyone to remain in a political party.

“But having said this, I can also announce to you that, as of today, Senator Anyim Pius hasn’t joined APC. So, I want to operate from the point of the known to the unknown,” he added.
