Edo 2024: Ighodalo vows commitment despite challenges ahead election

The Edo State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, has affirmed his commitment to leading the state to new heights despite facing significant challenges.

Ighodalo made these remarks during a meeting with the PDP National Campaign Council for the Edo State Governorship Election in Abuja on Saturday.

Dr. Ighodalo acknowledged the complexities of the electoral process, which he believes will be fraught with both substantial issues and considerable distractions. He stated, “I know it’s not going to be easy, it’s going to be very difficult. We’ve already seen the signs that this is going to be a difficult election, not only issues but on distractions.”

He expressed his confidence in overcoming these obstacles with the unwavering support of the party’s stakeholders and the people of Edo State. Ighodalo vowed to dedicate himself fully to the campaign and the potential governance of Edo State, stating, “We’ll give this everything we have. We’ll give it our 150% commitment. We will ensure that we make this, our great party, extremely proud to have presented us as their candidates.”

Reflecting on the challenges of the campaign, Ighodalo emphasized the role of both strategy and perseverance, noting that “sometimes distractions are more difficult to deal with than issues.” He also articulated his vision for the future of Edo State, aiming to transform it into a model for progress and development.

In support of Ighodalo’s candidacy, Lucky Igbinedion, a former two-term governor of Edo State and a prominent member of the campaign council, expressed his confidence in Ighodalo’s abilities and praised the leadership of the campaign council, which is chaired by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri. Igbinedion highlighted Fintiri’s past successes despite facing formidable opposition, stating, “We want to congratulate you and also show that doggedness in those things.”

Igbinedion also emphasized Ighodalo’s thorough engagement with the electorate, affirming that “he has been to every nook and cranny in Edo State,” and expressed unwavering support for the PDP’s campaign efforts. He concluded, “I have never wavered and I will never waver. PDP is in my DNA and I will assure and ensure and do all that is necessary that victory is ours come September.”

In addition to campaign preparations, the PDP event saw the welcoming of notable defectors from other parties in Edo State, including Alhaji Musa and High Chief Francis Ndengweni, signifying a strengthening of the party’s position in the gubernatorial race.
