Edo 2024: I’ll tar road to Obaseki’s ancestral home, says Okpebholo

The All Progressives Congress campaign train stopped at Uhunmwonde Local Government Area, where the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, promised to tar the road leading to Eguaeholor, the ancestral home of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Okpebholo expressed shock that the main road was not motorable, saying, “I will make sure I tar this road immediately when I resume office as the governor of Edo State. I am highly disappointed that Obaseki’s administration neglected even his ancestral home.”

At Ehor, headquarters of the LGA, Okpebholo promised to revive the Ehor Juice Factory and make the Technical College functional. He said the factory would help prevent losses experienced by pineapple producers in Uhunmwode and other local councils.

Former PDP BoT member, Hon Charles Idahosa, told the people that the only road tarred in Uhunmwode was done by former governor Adams Oshiomhole, and “Obaseki has turned our Technical College to garri factory.” He pleaded with the people to vote for the APC on September 21.

Senator Matthew Urhoghide, Director General of the Edo APC Governorship Campaign Council, appealed to the people to vote for the APC, saying, “I believe in Monday Okpebholo as a good candidate that will listen to the yearnings of the people.”

Senator Oshiomhole canvassed votes for Okpebholo, saying, “I brought Okpebholo to you so that you could hear from him what he intends to do for Uhunmwode people.”

In Ugoneki, Egbede/Ohuan ward, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu told the people that Governor Obaseki claimed to be from Uhunmwode but did nothing for the local government.

He urged them not to vote PDP on September 21, saying the APC government would provide water, electricity, tarred roads, and light.

Meanwhile, five political parties adopted Okpebholo and called on their supporters to vote for the APC.

The parties’ leader, Hon Sam Arase, said, “We have seen and watched carefully the campaign activities of the All Progressives Congress… we have decided to vote en masse for the APC… we want Edo to come back to its feet again.”

Responding, Okpebholo said he would run an all-inclusive government, implement every item on his manifesto, and turn the state into a huge construction site.

He said, “I am not the only candidate that is contesting right now, there is something special about me that they have seen, they have seen the capacity in me, they have seen me as somebody who can actually move Edo State forward.”

Acting State Chairman of the APC, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, said the party would not take the generous support of the parties for granted, while Senator Uroghide said their generous support would be rewarded.
