Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo on his victory as the Governor-elect of Edo State, pledging to strengthen ties with the incoming All Progressives Congress-led administration.
In a statement issued in Abuja and signed by Special Adviser on Media Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo praised Senator Okpebholo and the APC leadership for their resilience and determination, which led to the party’s return to power in Edo State.
The statement read, “Governor Ododo reiterated the promise of the APC and the Edo State Governor-elect to give priority to the welfare of the people of the state and to carry every segment of the state along in the development agenda of the APC administration when inaugurated in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Governor Ododo, who led the APC campaigns in Akoko-Edo, securing 34,847 votes, the highest return in any Local Government Area, commended the peaceful conduct of the Edo people during the polls. He also praised INEC and law enforcement agencies for their professionalism.
He said, “While expressing commitment to deepen partnership between Kogi and Edo as neighboring states with social, cultural, and economic ties, the Kogi State Governor prayed for God’s guidance for the Edo state Governor-elect to pilot the affairs of the state into a new chapter of development.”
Senator Okpebholo was declared the winner of the Edo State governorship election by INEC on Sunday, having polled 291,667 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party who secured 247,274 votes.
