Ahead of the Edo governorship election on September 21, 2024, the Social Democratic Party has merged with the Accord Party, adopting Dr. Bright Enabulele as their joint candidate.
This strategic alliance boosts Dr. Enabulele’s campaign, positioning him as a leading contender in the election.
Dr. Enabulele welcomed SDP members, highlighting their shared commitment to democratic values and governance reform.
He said, “We’re thrilled to integrate SDP members into the Accord fold.
“Their decision to join us reflects a collective desire for democratic governance and a departure from autocratic practices. Together, we’re dedicated to delivering fresh and inclusive leadership that every Edo indigene deserves.”
The merger reflects SDP members’ dissatisfaction with the current political ecosystem, which they criticize as autocratic.
“We’re weary of the entrenched autocracy and lack of progress in Edo State.
“Joining forces with Accord demonstrates our commitment to change and transparent, accountable government,” said SDP’s Deputy Chairman in Edo State, Yakubu Asimu.
At least two other political parties are expected to endorse Dr. Enabulele soon, signaling growing support and a shift in political dynamics. The coalition’s formation is poised to significantly influence Edo State’s political situation, reflecting a broad-based call for reform and a renewed approach to governance. As the election approaches, the merging parties are united in their call for change.
