Edo 2024: Why I won’t support PDP’s Ighodalo for gov, says Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has declared that he will not support Governor Godwin Obaseki or the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, in the upcoming Edo State governorship election on September 21.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike stated, “I won’t support Governor Godwin Obaseki… I won’t support the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who has the support of the outgoing Edo State Governor.”

Wike described Governor Obaseki as an ingrate, revealing that Obaseki had approached him to seek support for Ighodalo, but he refused.

“My support for Obaseki in the past earned me nothing but unending insults,” Wike said.

When asked about the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, who is his first cousin, Wike replied, “Nobody can intimidate my cousin, not even the INEC Chairman. Nobody born of a woman can intimidate my cousin into doing what is not right.”

Wike questioned why the issue of his cousin’s posting to Edo State over a year ago was being raised now, saying, “Why are they raising this issue now? My cousin was posted to Edo State over a year ago.”
