The Edo State Inland Revenue Service has announced that the state’s Internally Generated Revenue surpassed its ₦10 billion target for January, setting the stage for further growth in the coming months.
The Chairman of EIRS, Hon. Oladele Bankole-Balogun, disclosed this achievement during a courtesy visit to the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Enekpen Otimeyin, the 49th and first female Commissioner of Police in the state.
According to Bankole-Balogun, the revenue milestone was attained under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo, who tasked the newly constituted EIRS Board with boosting revenue to meet the state’s developmental needs. He noted that the effort aligns with the governor’s five-point agenda aimed at enhancing economic growth and infrastructure development.
“The feat was achieved under the leadership of the governor of the state, His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo, who charged the new EIRS Board with a clear mandate of generating IGR for the developmental needs of the state in line with the five-point agenda of his administration,” he stated.
Bankole-Balogun also sought the support of the police in ensuring tax compliance and enforcement, emphasizing that maintaining the revenue growth trajectory requires collaboration with security agencies.
He said, “We solicit the support and partnership with the police in sustaining this unprecedented record to ensure compliance and enforcement with the tax laws.”
In response, CP Otimeyin commended the EIRS for its role in the state’s economic development and assured the agency of the police command’s cooperation in sustaining efficient tax collection.
She stated, “We appreciate the role of the Revenue Service in the development of the state and promise the command’s support and partnership with the EIRS leadership for a sustainable IGR collection, which is needed by all citizens.”
Before meeting the police commissioner, Bankole-Balogun led the EIRS Board to the office of the Director of the Department of State Services, where he also sought collaboration and security support for revenue collection operations.
