The reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has made shocking revelations about Governor Godwin Obaseki’s rise to power.
In an interview on Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today’, Shaibu stated that Obaseki lacked the financial resources and political experience to contest the 2016 election.
Shaibu said, “We made Obaseki governor. Obaseki was not a politician, and was not financially strong enough to contest the election.”
He credited Senator Adams Oshiomhole with convincing him and others to support Obaseki, saying, “It took Oshiomhole three months to convince some of our supporters and me to support Obaseki.”
Shaibu emphasized that he and others brought their resources and political capital to make Obaseki governor, stating, “We brought our resources and our friends to bring money and we brought our political capital to make him governor.”
He also said, “He is not the one that made me; I made him. I was asked to be his deputy to add political value because he was not a politician.”
Shaibu’s statements suggest that Obaseki’s victory in 2016 was largely due to the support and resources of others, including himself and Senator Oshiomhole.
