Ekiti 2022: Oni hasn’t stepped down, says aide

Segun Oni

An aide to Social Democratic Party governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Jackson Adebayo, has denied that his principal, Segun Oni, stepped down for Bisi Kolawole of the Peoples Democratic Party.

“The statement circulated on social media over the night isn’t true. Chief Segun Oni didn’t step down for anyone. It’s those that are scared of losing and have seen that we’re winning that are circulating it,” he said.

A widely circulated statement that had gone viral on social media said the Ifaki-born politician had stepped down because the leadership of the SDP that gave him the ticket to run had expired and thus was illegal and was, therefore, declaring support for Bisi Kolawole.

SDP, PDP, the ruling All Progressives Congress and 13 other political parties are jostling to produce the next governor of Ekiti State in today’s election.

The exercise is scheduled to hold across the 2,445 polling units in the 16 local government areas of the state.
