The recent developments within the Ekiti South chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party have seen key leaders voicing strong opposition to the proposed zoning of offices by some members of the State Working Committee in preparation for the upcoming congress.
The dissenting voices were led by notable figures such as former Acting Governor Diran Odeyemi, Publicity Secretary (Southwest) Sanya Atofarati, Mrs. Titi Akindahunsi, Chief Bade Adara, and Chairman of Ekiti South Chief Tijani.
The leaders convened a meeting where they issued a communiqué outlining their stance. They commended the tenacity and steadfastness of party members across the district, particularly for upholding the party’s integrity despite facing challenges.
They urged the state organ of the party to work in unity and in accordance with the PDP constitution, focusing on member unity rather than actions that could fragment the party in pursuit of personal aspirations.
The communiqué highlighted the leaders’ belief in democratic competition free from acrimony and animosity. They firmly rejected the purported zoning, which they viewed as pre-emptive of the State Executive Council’s decision, the highest decision-making organ in the state as per the PDP Constitution.
Furthermore, the leaders commended the efforts of State chairman Engr Alaba Agboola for his relentless efforts in positioning the Ekiti PDP as a viable opposition to the current APC government.
