A recent court order has halted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission investigation into alleged embezzlement by two former Ekiti State officials, sparking outrage from the Ekiti Justice Group.
Recall that Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court granted the exparte order, shielding Seun Odewale and Ariyo Oyinkolawa Adesola from probe over funds meant for the Ekiti Airport project.
The Ekiti Justice Group, on Tuesday, criticized the decision, citing double standards by Justice Nwite, who previously issued a bench warrant for former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello’s arrest despite a pending court order, according to Independent.
“The court’s action undermines the fight against corruption and protects those who have looted public funds,” said Comrade Tunji Oluwasanmi, EJG Coordinator.
Odewale and Adesola served under former Governor Kayode Fayemi, raising questions about the propriety of the EFCC’s investigation into contracts awarded or executed by the Ekiti State government.
The EFCC has yet to comment on the development, which has sparked widespread concern over the integrity of the judicial system.
The Ekiti Justice Group urged transparency and accountability, calling on those who managed Ekiti State funds to present themselves for investigation if they have nothing to hide.
