Emulate Yar’Adua’s judicial reform – PDP chieftain urges Tinubu

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Segun Sowunmi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to emulate late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in terms of judicial reformation.

The ace politician made the call while fielding questions from the press.

He opined that the electoral reform would get back the integrity of the court process, adding that such reform should not give room for human interference in the election process, according to the Independent.

“I’ll say very clearly to President Bola Tinubu, if this is what your democratic credentials are all about, then you better stop calling yourself a democrat.

“No leader in the world where the election which produced him would be full of chaos with the killing of people, allow governors to override the authority that has been given to them to protect all others only to intimidate others because they have the instrument of the state, the power and they will begin to think that they are wiser and smarter than every other person.

“I commend Yar Adua who had the courage and character to look behind and say that he accepted that the election that produced him was faulty and he set up the Uwais Committee to review the process.

“What I expect from Tinubu now is a judicial reform to get back the integrity of our court process, and also an electoral reform that will remove human interferences from our electoral process.

“More importantly, a clear message to everybody, whether they are members of All Progressives Congress (APC) or opposition, is to allow a country to be one that people participate in democratic elections.

On the position of the PDP, he said, “Ultimately the party has to reform itself from the inside and it is only when we have done that that we can have the buy-in of the larger society to help us to push for the kind of country that we deserve.

“We’re not happy with the court decision, we don’t agree with the decision of Appeal Court in Zamfara State, we don’t agree with the decision of the court in Plateau and we don’t agree with the confusion that has been created in Kano State.

“It’s beginning to appear as if there is a different room for the goose which is the APC and the gander which is the PDP. All said and done we tried to maintain the stability of this country.

“I believe that the PDP and our leadership are more in tune with the sacrifices of nation-building, the concept of inclusiveness and ensuring that this country can be a great nation. We have done it once and I believe that we can do it again.

“We won’t be participating in any process that will endanger the country because the cost of rebuilding infrastructure is more than what can be imagined. You cannot love the people and be putting them in danger,” he added.
