The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said that Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, faced significant distractions for nearly a year from what he described as the enemies of the state.
Kwankwaso made these remarks on Saturday during the governor’s declaration of a State of Emergency on education in Kano.
Kwankwaso lamented that although Governor Yusuf was declared the winner of the March 2023 gubernatorial election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, his victory was contested in court by political adversaries.
“Despite the fact that the governor was distracted for about one year. Immediately after election, enemies of the State took him to Court – Tribunal, Appeal Court to Supreme Court. We have seen what happened even when they knew that there is no need to go to any Court or tribunal. Everybody knew that he won his election. Even the enemies were saying that they wanted to take it by force because they believe they have a government,” Kwankwaso stated.
The former Kano governor compared Yusuf’s struggles against the All Progressives Congress leaders in the state to his own challenges with Boko Haram insurgents during his tenure. Despite these obstacles, Kwankwaso emphasized that Governor Yusuf has remained committed to his campaign promises and has shown resilience in the face of adversity.
