The governor of Enugu State has appointed Professor Chidiebere Onyia as the next Secretary to the State Government.
The Guardian reported that the nomination was made public on Monday and was made available to the media by his press office in a statement signed personally by the governor.
Prof. Onyia previously served as the Managing Director of the United Kingdom Nigeria Infrastructure Facility. He has over the years provided services to several international organizations and countries, including the United Nations, Germany, and Russia. He was also the Lead Strategy Advisor for the Federal Government of Nigeria and the World Bank Group Power Sector Recovery Programme.
In addition to serving on the Governing Council of two private universities in Nigeria, Prof. Onyia is a visiting professor of education at Godfrey Okoye University in Enugu and a former visiting professor at the University of Nigeria in Nsukka.
His educational credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction, a Master of Business Administration, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Additionally, he received a post-doctoral scholarship in education policy from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, an Ivy League institution.
With more than 25 years of leadership, innovation, strategy, institutional reform, and research experience, Prof. Onyia has won numerous international and national awards and recognition for his excellent leadership abilities as well as his great contributions to the field of education.
He has numerous publications and is a licensed educational consultant, researcher, presenter, mentor, and author of many books.
Prof. Onyia was also a member of the Transition team, a technical team that prepared an actionable plan for the Peter Mbah government based on his manifesto and social contract with the people of Enugu State.
