The former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bishop Kennedy Azubuike Njoku, has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress in Abia State.
Njoku, who represented Osisioma Ngwa North State Constituency in the 7th Assembly, resigned as Speaker following a compromise brokered by the PDP that allowed Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, the son of Abia’s former governor, to assume the position.
At his country home in Mbutu Nta village, Osisioma Local Government Area, Njoku explained that his decision to leave the PDP followed thorough consultations with his constituents and stakeholders across the state. He expressed his gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities it had provided him, but felt it was time for a change.
Njoku encouraged his supporters to join him in the APC, assuring them of better opportunities for those willing to work hard. He emphasized that his new party operates on a merit-based system, where effort and dedication are rewarded.
The defection was supported by several key figures, including Comr. Odimegwu Aruru, Chief of Staff to the Bishop Campaign Organization; Comr. Emmanuel Nduagu, former President of the Osisioma Ngwa Youth Congress; and Hon. Austin Uruakpa, former leader of the Osisioma Ngwa Legislative Council. These individuals called on Njoku’s supporters to register as APC members in their local wards, viewing the defection as the start of a new political era for the region.
“I am grateful to the PDP for the opportunities they provided me and wish them well in their future endeavors,” Njoku said.
Njoku assured his supporters that his decision was motivated by a vision to improve the future of Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area and Abia State. Comr. Oliver Christian, a youth leader from Isiala Osokwa Ward 6, commended Njoku’s decision and pledged the full support of the youth in his new political journey.
