Ex-APC chair blames Wike for Rivers PDP crisis

A former chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Emeka Beke, has blamed Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, for the crisis in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and opposition parties in the state.

Bekee attributed the recent happenings in Rivers APC to Wike, stressing that they will not fold their hands and allow the former governor to destroy Rivers APC.

Speaking on Arise TV on Monday, Beke accused Wike of having caused problems in the Peoples Democratic Party and has moved to the APC to destabilise the party they have built over the years.

He said, “The Minister for FCT, Nyesom Wike is the one that is causing problems in Rivers APC. He has finished causing problems in PDP he is now causing problems in APC to create a crisis, and we won’t accept that. This is the same character that said he wouldn’t get into cancer.

Answering questions as to why he insists he is the state chairman when a caretaker chairman in the person of Tony Okocha has been appointed, he said, “I can tell you that we have illegality at the national secretariat of our great party. I was duly elected on the 18th of October 2021 as the chairman of the party. I wasn’t handpicked. Delegates came from across the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state to elect me as chairman with my exco. There’s no crisis in Rivers APC, to say that is the reason to dissolve the exco.

The APC has been one party. I went round the 23 LGAs and 319 wards in the state to campaign for my governorship candidate, Assembly candidates and the president, nobody challenged my position. Now that we have victory, you say caretaker. What kind of caretaker is that?

“I’m already in court and I’ll drag them to anywhere they want us to go. The national chairman in question was not elected. The national secretary was not elected, he was handpicked. The two of them shouldn’t scatter the house that we’ve built over the years.

“There was no time when there was a crisis in Rivers State. Somebody somewhere has decided to pay money for them to dissolve the exco in Rivers State. I’ll challenge them in the court of law. We have one authentic chairman in Rivers State. I am the chairman of the party with my full excos.

On why he wasn’t the one who received the 27 lawmakers into APC, he said, I’m not aware of any ceremony. Someone somewhere is destabilizing our party,” Beke added.
