Ex-APC presidential campaign member decamps to SDP

Renowned entertainer, businessman, and youth leader, Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, has defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Social Democratic Party, citing the ruling party’s failure to uphold its founding ideals and properly reward loyal members.

MC Tagwaye, who was a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Team for the 2023 elections, announced his decision in a statement on Friday, saying the APC had lost its way.

“This decisive move is born out of my deep-seated conviction that the APC has deviated from its original ideals. The party’s reward system does not honor loyalty, and its leadership structure is dominated by a few power brokers who disregard the voices and aspirations of the majority,” he said.

He further criticised the APC’s internal democracy, stating that it had been “egregiously compromised” and that decisions were now controlled by a select few “power brokers,” sidelining the majority of party members.

In contrast, he described the Social Democratic Party as a party with genuine democratic values.

“I have made the bold decision to resign from the APC and join the SDP, a party that truly represents the interests of the people. I encourage all Nigerians who share my vision to join me. Together, we can build a better future for ourselves, our children, and our great nation,” he said.

MC Tagwaye, known for his comedy and business ventures, has now formally submitted his resignation to his APC ward chairman, marking the beginning of his new political journey with the SDP.
