The former governorship candidate for the Labour Party in Enugu State during the 2023 election, Chijioke Edeoga, has officially rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party.
Edeoga had moved to the LP in 2023 after being denied the PDP governorship ticket.
However, after a series of discussions, including a visit in January from the PDP, led by Martin Chukwunweike, to encourage his return, Edeoga announced his defection back to the party on Monday at the PDP state secretariat in Enugu.
At the event, Edeoga expressed his gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah and Chukwunweike for facilitating his return, calling the event “remarkable and historic.” He stated that such a political shift had never happened in Enugu before, adding, “It is going to cause a paradigm shift in the politics of Enugu. I rededicate myself again to the PDP to make the party a winning machine in the state.”
Martin Chukwunweike, the PDP state chairman, welcomed Edeoga back by presenting him with the party’s constitution. He emphasized that Edeoga’s return was crucial for the party’s success in the 2027 elections. “Edeoga is the first person who has come to register with the party, and it is my belief that more people who left the party will return. I assure you that his coming will be good for the state, and with this, there is no opposition party in Enugu,” Chukwunweike said.
PDP Ehamufu Ward chairman, Sunday Uzochukwu, confirmed that Edeoga had already joined the PDP and that the event was a formal presentation of his return at the state level.
The event was attended by key PDP chieftains, elders, and supporters, marking a significant development for the party in Enugu.
