Tragedy struck in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Monday morning when the secretariat of the Action People’s Party was hit by a dynamite explosion.

The blast, which occurred at approximately 1 am, caused significant damage to the building located along the GRA axis of the state capital.

Witnesses reported that the attackers threw what appeared to be dynamite into the APP secretariat, leading to a violent explosion that shattered windows and doors. The force of the blast also inflicted substantial damage on the building’s interior, destroying ceiling fittings and other party property.

An unnamed APP official claimed that the attack was clearly politically motivated, saying: “Yes, I’m a member of the APP. I was informed of the attack at about 3 am today. This is politically-motivated and there is no two ways about it. They know that the APP is a fast-growing political party in the state. We call on the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits.”

The explosion has left the APP community in shock, with many members concerned about the implications for their party’s safety and future activities. The destruction of the party’s property marks a troubling development in the already tense political climate of Rivers State.

In response to the attack, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, indicated that she was not immediately aware of the incident but promised to investigate further, saying: “I’ll get back to you once I have more information.”

As investigations into the incident unfold, the APP is calling for urgent action from the authorities to address the violence and hold those responsible accountable. The attack on their secretariat underscores the increasing volatility in the state’s political arena and raises serious concerns about security and political stability in the region.
