The Federal Capital Executive Committee has approved contracts valued at N33.24 billion for various projects to be executed over the next year.
This decision was made during the committee’s ninth meeting, chaired by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in Abuja on Friday.
After the meeting, Chidi Amadi, Chief of Staff to the Minister, briefed journalists, explaining that the contracts align with the FCT administration’s commitment to delivering essential services to residents.
Mandate Secretary of the Transportation Secretariat, Dr. Chinedum Elechi, provided specifics on the projects. He highlighted that N7.22 billion has been allocated for constructing access roads to the Kugbo and Mabushi bus and taxi terminals as supplementary work. Contracts for building the terminals in Kugbo, Mabushi, and the Central Business District were initially awarded in May. With the projects at Kugbo and Mabushi nearing completion, the need for dedicated access roads became apparent, prompting the award of the road construction contract to Planet Projects Limited, with a completion timeline of 12 weeks.
Dr. Elechi also noted that the committee approved the procurement of fuel products for the operation and maintenance of the Wupa Basin Sewage Treatment Plant. The contract for 120,000 liters of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) and 40,250 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) was awarded to Safah and Fresh Limited at a cost of N2.92 billion, covering a 12-month period. An additional N638,550 was allocated for the supply of 400,000 liters of diesel to the Lower Usuma Dam Water Treatment Plant operated by the FCT Water Board.
Further approvals included infrastructure projects aimed at supporting key institutions in the FCT.
Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Development Authority, Shehu Ahmad, announced that the committee approved N7.83 billion for constructing an access road to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Academy located in the Giri District. The project, awarded to Levant Construction Limited, is set for completion in nine months.
The committee also sanctioned the design and construction of ten staff quarters for the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, Abuja, with a contract valued at N2.19 billion awarded to Austlinks Energy Services Ltd. This project also has a nine-month completion period.
Additionally, the committee approved the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Bill Clinton Road, which connects to the Presidential Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The N9.88 billion contract, awarded to Julius Berger, is scheduled for completion in six months. Mr. Ahmad explained that this project also includes the rehabilitation of several facilities within the Presidential Wing, including the presidential hangar, taxiway, and airport apron.
Lastly, Gardiya Bawa, Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Legal Secretariat, disclosed that the committee approved N605.94 million for procuring office equipment, furnishing a new office, and purchasing utility vehicles for the secretariat.
These approvals reflect the FCT administration’s ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and service delivery across the territory.
