Fubara loyalist Ehie resigns as Rivers assembly speaker

Ehie Edison

Edison Ehie, a loyalist to Governor Siminalaye Fubara of Rivers State, has resigned from his position as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

In a letter addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission and posted on the X platform on Sunday, December 31, 2023, also resigned as a member representing the Ahoada East constituency in the Assembly.

It would be recalled that the State House of Assembly has been rocked with crisis in the last few months.

The crisis which led to the decamping of 26 members of the assembly from the Peoples Democratic Party, to the All Progressives Congress, however, resulted in a power tussle between Martin Amaewhule, a supporter of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, and Ehie, before the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.

However, Tinubu at a meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, a few weeks ago, ordered the reinstatement of Amaewhule as the Speaker of the Assembly.

The President also directed the reinstatement of 26 other lawmakers who decamped from the PDP, among other measures, to resolve the issue.
