Ahead of the 2027 presidential elections, Buba Galadima, a prominent member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of offering financial incentives to opposition parties to secure their support for its candidate.
Galadima claimed that the APC is using a combination of monetary promises, intimidation, and other tactics to ensure that opposition groups align with the government’s agenda.
Galadima further alleged that the APC has already succeeded in weakening major opposition parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, and others.
Despite this, he stated that the NNPP has managed to resist these efforts, thanks to its strategic leadership and political acumen.
He specifically pointed to the NNPP leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as a key figure who poses a significant challenge to the APC, describing him as the “nightmare” of the ruling party.
In an interview with Vanguard, published on Sunday, Galadima outlined the tactics being used by the APC to dominate the political landscape. He mentioned how the ruling party has essentially reduced the PDP, LP, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance to mere shadows of their former selves.
Galadima also addressed speculation about Kwankwaso’s potential candidacy for the 2027 election, stating that, as a Nigerian citizen, Kwankwaso has every constitutional right to run for office if he has the support to do so. He emphasized that if Kwankwaso believes he is strong enough and has sufficient backing, he would be well within his rights to contest the presidential race.
Galadima said: “They are promising that to all political parties to align with the agenda of the present government so that in 2027, there will be no candidate. You see how they are trying to decimate political parties? They have decimated the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to the ground, they have decimated the Labour Party, LP, they have decimated the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. We don’t even know which…”
On why they have not been able to decimate the NNPP, he said, “They can’t because we are too smart for them. Of course, you know that they are trying to destabilize Kano State, but Alhaji Kwankwaso is their nightmare.”
“He is a Nigerian from the North and the constitution has given him the right to contest if the opportunity is there. Kwankwaso is a Nigerian and if he feels he is strong enough and got enough support, he will contest. What stops him?” the NNPP chieftain submitted.
